Manatee County Closes Schools on Monday

Three county schools will serve as evacuation shelters.

All public schools in the Manatee County School District will be closed on Monday as Tropical Storm Isaac is expected to continue its path along Florida's Gulf Coast.

All students and employees of the school district are advised to take precautions and stay home until the threat has passed. Monday's school closings in Manatee County include all before and after-school activities, athletic practices and games and a regularly scheduled meeting of the Manatee County School Board.

Three Manatee District Schools have been designated emergency shelters and will open Sunday at 10 a.m.

The three designated shelters are:

  • 6615 Greenbrook Blvd. which will serve as both a special needs and pet friendly shelter.
  • , 1000 32nd Street West, which will serve as a pet friendly shelter.
  • 6545 S R 70 East.

School District officials will continue to work with Manatee County Emergency Management officials to determine if additional shelters will need to be opened and if school closings will be extended to Tuesday.
