World Rowing Championships Coming to Manatee/Sarasota

The International Federation of Rowing has selected Manatee Sarasota as the host of the 2017 World Rowing Championships, officials said earlier this month.

The organization made the announcement at this year's world championships in South Korea. The event will take place in late September, 2017 at Nathan Benderson Park, 2500 Honore Blvd., Sarasota.

Officials say the event attracts over 1,500 athletes and coaches along with more than 100,000 spectators and fans.

Florida Gov. Rick Scott said in a news release it was a “great day for Florida” to receive the invitation to host the event and the games.
