Motorist Dunks Vehicle, After Driving Off Boat Ramp

The motorist told sheriff's deputies that he did not realize the road had ended when he drove off the boat ramp and into the river.

A 45-year-old motorist mistakenly drove his vehicle down a boat ramp at 1602 Fort Hamer Rd., in Parrish, before dawn on Thursday.

The Manatee County Sheriff's Office reports that Juan Andrade of Palmetto did not realize the road had ended and drove his car down the boat ramp and into the Upper Manatee River.

The sheriff's office received a call at about 4 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, about a vehicle in the water.

The dive team from the Manatee County Sheriff's Office had to extract the car from the river. The driver did not suffer any injuries in the crash, and deputies completed a traffic crash investigation, according to a press release.
