Man Charged With Teen's Murder

The teenager was left to die in the street after being shot.

Manatee County detectives arrested a 20-year old man in connection with the shooting death of a 19-year-old left in the street to die.

Detectives have arrested Kwame Henri, 20, and charged him with murder, according to a Manatee County Sheriff's report. Henri is accused of shooting Kenya Cox, 19, and leaving him in the middle of 27th Avenue east where he died.

Cox was found shot to death last Friday after his aunt called 9-1-1 to report that someone was lying in the street and appeared to be injured. His murder was the fourth Manatee County killing in 2012.

Manatee County detectives said that Cox was at Henri’s residence at 1711 27th Ave. E., on January 20, the night he was killed. They learned that Cox and Henri were talking outside of the house and then started wrestling. After the pair began wrestling someone in the neighborhood heard a gunshot and Cox fell to the ground.
