Elderly Man Arrested for Allegedly Shooting Up and Smashing House

An elderly man was arrested Thursday after he smashed in the windows and shot into a Bradenton home because he wanted to get the attention of someone who owed him $30, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Howard Curtis Walls, 65, was charged with shooting into a dwelling, criminal mischief of $1000 or more, and operating a firearm under the influence of alcohol after he reportedly tried intimidate a man who owed him money by damaging a house, according to a report.  

Walls didn't accomplish his goal, but did gain the attention of local law enforcement officers after several neighbors called in to report that he had smashed three windows of a home on the 6500 block of Third Ave. E. and fired a round in the wall separating the kitchen from the living room, a report said.

When MCSO deputies arrived, the found Walls still holding a double-barreled shotgun and standing in front of the residence, the report states. Deputies had to order him to drop the weapon several times before he complied, a report said. Walls said he thought he would find the man who owed him money at the house, although there no one was living there at the time of the incident, a report said.

Walls was taken to the Manatee County Jail where he is being held on a $9,120 bond.
