Bradenton Man to be Sentenced in Violent Home Invasion

A Bradenton man will be sentenced tomorrow for his role in a violent home invasion and robbery that happened in January.

Yancy Steen was convicted last week of home invasion robbery after holding a handgun to the heads of a mother and her 11-year-old son and then ransacking their home.

Steen will be sentenced in the Honorable Charles Roberts’ courtroom at the Sarasota County Judicial Center, on Tuesday, October 8.

The Sarasota Police Department and the State Attorney’s Office have been working together on the case for the last nine months.

Detective Tony DeFrancisco, Sarasota Police Department, added, “The State Attorney’s Office did a great job prosecuting this case.  I’m happy the victims and family can gain closure with the conviction of a violent criminal.”

Kennedy Legler, Assistant State Attorney who tried to case with Suzanne O’Donnell, added, “Due to the quick response of law enforcement, this man who robbed a woman and a 11-year-old child at gunpoint in their own home will be off our streets for a very long time."

On January 21, 2013, Steen entered a home in the 1800 block of 29th Street, Sarasota, around 12:50 a.m. and held a handgun to the heads of a mother and her 11-year-old son. Steen ransacked the home and was later apprehended by law enforcement.
