$39K in Jewelry Stolen From River Club South Home

Authorities say the suspect or suspects smashed a sliding glass door and took a $30,000 gold watch and other jewelry items from the Lakewood Ranch home.

More than $39,000 in jewelry was stolen from a home in the River Club South neighborhood in Lakewood Ranch on Tuesday night after someone broke through a sliding glass door, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office reports.

The suspect or suspects smashed the rear sliding glass door to the master bedroom and entered without setting off the alarm at the home in the 10000 block of Cheval Place, Bradenton, according to a news release. The break-in happened sometime between 6 and 9:30 p.m.

Just a few specific dresser drawers were opened, and jewelry items including a 18-karat gold Cartier watch worth $30,000 were taken, the sheriff's office said. A pillow case was removed, possibly to store the jewelry, according to the release.

There were no witnesses or video recordings and the sheriff's office said it has no suspects at this time.

This is the second major jewelry theft reported in the area in a week. from a Sonesta Court home Tuesday after someone pried open a rear door, according to authorities.

The sheriff's office has not indicated if the two crimes are related.
