Former Teacher: 'Obama Depicts American Dream'

The Bradenton resident is a former classroom teacher who now works with a teachers' union. She attended President Barack Obama's rally in Tampa Oct. 25.

Mary Proud is a single mom of three daughters.

Now with grown children and working as an organizing specialist for the Florida Education Association, the Bradenton resident said she can identify with President Barack Obama.

Proud made the drive to Tampa to see Obama live at Ybor City's Centennial Park. She was joined in the crowd by members of the Hillsborough Classroom Teachers Association. The groups have a collaborative relationship.

"Obama depicts that American Dream," she said. "I can't see anything better than having him as our president because he represents anything is possible."

Obama came to the Tampa Bay area today, Oct. 25, as part of his "America Forward!" tour. The tour included stops in Iowa and Colorado before arriving in Tampa.
