(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – Flip Flops and shorts were replaced by jeans and backpacks as Lakewood Ranch High students returned to school Monday, Aug. 19.

Students huddled into groups as they embraced their peers after a long break, while others climbed out of cars which were backed down Lakewood Ranch Blvd. Six-hundred new freshman entered LRHS and 300 students transferred to the school this year.

Principal Linda Nesselhauf said, “Thank you for a near perfect opening day of school…we saw many smiles.”

Students and staff, meanwhile, were in great spirits.

“It was great seeing all my friends again,” said junior Caitlyn Currey, “I’m excited to meet new people. I feel like it’s going to be a good school year.”

LRHS sees several changes this school year, including new teachers as well as a new dress code for students. A traffic light was added onto Lakewood Ranch Blvd. to add more safety for students leaving school.

Sports teams are kicking off their seasons, and school clubs are scheduling their first meetings of the new school year.
