PALMETTO — This battered elephant is part of a PETA protest that took place around noon on Friday outside of the Bradenton Area Convention Center during a Florida Neighborhoods Conference.

Approximately 10 PETA supporters, including one person dressed as and elephant and another dressed as a tiger, held signs of protest to show their opposition to Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus owner Kenneth Feld, who delivered the keynote address.

The protestors said that baby elephants used by Ringling in its circus show are mistreated and shocked with electric prods during training exercises. They also held up signs saying the circus violated a federal requirement that tigers have daily exercise opportunities apart from performances.
