SBEP to Celebrate Earth Day with Clean Up Event at Oscar Scherer State Park

In celebration of World Environment Day the Sarasota Bay Estuary Program's Bay Guardians are teaming up with Oscar Scherer State Park, Scheda Ecological Associates and Around the Bend Nature Tours for a native planting Sunday, April 27 at Oscar Scherer State Park. Volunteers will be planting 9,000 wetland plants. The Friends of Oscar Scherer Park will provide a lunch ticket to each volunteer following the planting. They will also receive a free park pass good at any Florida State Park. Volunteers should register online at SarasotaBay.org.

The volunteer outing coincides with the 25th Annual Earth Day Festival from 10 am to 4 pm. The fun family event will feature live music, food vendors, tram tours, information and craft booths, demonstrations, native plants for sale, and an exhibit featuring local photographers. There will also be activities for kids including a coloring contest, storytelling and a puppet show. Tram rides cost $5 per person. The normal entrance fees into the park will be waived on Sunday.

For more information or to request ADA accessibility, please contact Oscar Scherer State Park at 941-483-5956 or diane.stinson@dep.state.fl.us.
