UPDATE: Olympic Medal Recovered by Police
UPDATE: Detectives recovered the olympic gold medal from around 7:35 p.m. Thursday evening. They are pursuing other leads to see if any other people were involved.
Original: Authorities think this man may have stolen a gold medal from a Bradenton olympian, but no one has been able to locate the item.
The Bradenton Police Department detained a man on Thursday they say stole a gold medal from a Bradenton Olympian last week, however they have yet to locate the 24-karat gold medallion hanging from a purple lanyard.
Allen Jeffery Nichols, 22, of Bradenton is charged with grand theft after he allegedly stole the medal from a the car of a track and field sprint athlete who had his 2012 gold Olympic medal inside the center console while parked outside his home, according to the BPD.

Nichols was identified as the primary suspect after the BPD received numerous tips from citizens around the area. However a police report said they have not yet located the medal.
