Man, 84, Opens Fire on Robbery Suspect at His Bradenton Home

The victim thinks one shot struck the alleged getaway car, deputies say; the other hit a neighbor's car across the street.

An 84-year-old Bradenton man who returned home to find a burglary suspect  confronted and then opened fire on the suspect as he fled, deputies say.

The elderly man, who lives in the 2800 block of 26th Avenue Drive West, came home around 5:35 p.m. Sunday to find a newer model Volkswagon in his driveway, according to a Manatee County Sheriff's Office report.

The suspect "appeared from the victim's home," and the victim confronted him with his pistol, the report states.

The suspect then got into his car and began to leave, striking the front of the victim's car but causing no noticeable damage.

The victim warned the suspect that he would shoot as the suspect drove through the yard and onto the road, deputies said. The victim fired two shots as the car was fleeing down the street.

"He believes one shot struck the door of the suspect's car," according to the report. The other shot struck the rear window of a neighbor's car across the street.

Officials did not have a detailed description of the suspect.
