Bradenton's Colton Ward and hometown favorites We The Kings will appear on Fuse TV's 'Hoppus on Music' this Friday.
Colton Ward would love to someday share the stage with We The Kings, the platinum-selling, power-pop band that calls Bradenton its hometown. Until that day comes, the 10-year-old Bradenton Christian student and aspiring musician will settle for the next best thing: Being on the same TV show as his musical idols. Ward — or at least Ward's picture — will appear on an episode of "Hoppus on Music" that features We The Kings and airs at 11 p.m. Friday on Fuse TV. "I'm really excited," Ward said. "I'm a big fan. I have their songs on my iPod." That the band ended up being featured on a musical interview show is no surprise. The Kings have been all over MTV and toured the world since their hit single, "Check Yes Juliet" (Ward's favorite song), …

Major League Baseball All-Star Jamie Moyer and his wife, Karen, have a reputation for giving back to the communities they live in. Since relocating to Bradenton from Seattle in 2008, the Moyers have become immersed in the local community. The Moyer Foundation, which creates support camps for bereaved children and those whose parents or guardians suffer from drug or alcohol dependency, hosted the Celebrity Rock 'N' Bowl event on Saturday at AMF Bradenton Lanes. The intention was to raise the funds necessary to create and sustain a local support camp for children dealing with addiction. The popular Bradenton-based rock band We The Kings performed at the event. Other celebrities present included retired major league pitcher Scott Eyre and …

World Series-winning pitcher and his wife, Karen, are committed to helping kids locally and nationwide with their foundation and camps. You can help at Saturday's Celebrity Rock n’ Bowl Charity Bowling Tournament.
Over the course of the past decade, what started out with the selfless concern of one 15-year-old girl has evolved into the largest national network of support for children overcoming the grief incurred from the loss of a loved one or from a relative battling drug dependency. Soon, that support will extend to Bradenton, thanks to Major League Baseball All-Star pitcher Jamie Moyer and his wife, Karen. In 1998, Erin Metcalf was battling liver cancer when the Make-A-Wish Foundation granted her wish to attend spring training with her favorite baseball team, the Seattle Mariners. There, she met Jamie, then pitching for the Mariners, and Karen. Although Jamie would later go on to lead the Philadelphia Phillies to a World Series win in 2008, he …

Bradenton's rock stars put on a show for a good cause.
We The Kings, the platinum-selling, power-pop band from Bradenton with a growing legion of followers, returned to its hometown last week for a good cause. The Kings — who take their name from Bradenton's King Middle School — joined five other bands for the Rock Out For a Cause concert last Friday at Lakewood Ranch High School. The event was hosted by the Lakewood Ranch International Key Club and Taking Back Lives, a Bradenton-based charity organization who raises money to provide educational opportunities for underprivileged youth in Malawi, Africa. Other local charities took part in the event, including Honor Sanctuary Animal Rescue, Family Network on Disabilities, Food Bank of Manatee, Solve Maternity Homes, and Manatee Glens. Access to …

School's International Key Club is teaming up with Taking Back Lives and local rock stars to throw a benefit concert Friday.
Iconic rock legend and celebrity humanitarian Bono, U2's frontman, once said, “As a rock star, I have two instincts: I want to have fun, and I want to change the world. I have a chance to do both.” That idea is the driving principle behind Rock Out for a Cause, a benefit concert to be held Friday night at Lakewood Ranch High School. The school's International Key Club has teamed up with Bradenton-based charity organization Taking Back Lives to put on an event that promises to bring down the house while raising awareness and money for a handful of great causes. Rocking out has never felt so good. Mandy Kersey, English teacher and faculty adviser for the Key Club at Lakewood Ranch, originally envisioned “Campout for a Cause” in 2009, an …

Breakout band returns for its annual hometown Christmas show.
They may be platinum-selling rock stars, but the members of Bradenton's We The Kings still have to go to church today. One day after rocking out at their annual "A Merry 941 Christmas" hometown show at The Hall in Palmetto, guitarist Hunter Thomsen and his younger brother, bassist Drew Thomsen, have to be at Westminster Presbyterian for Christmas Eve service with their family. They caused quite a stir there last year, according to mom Robin Regal. "Last Christmas Eve all the little girls were turning around with their camera phones," Regal said. That's life as a rock star, something the guys in We The Kings are growing accustomed to. Formed in 2003 when they attended King Middle School -- which also inspired their name -- the pop-punk band…
