A weekend series between the Bradenton Maruaders and St. Lucie Mets will feature a battle on the field and a party in the stands. The Marauders host the St. Lucie Mets at McKechnie Field for a three-game series starting on Friday. The Mets eliminated the Marauders from the 2011 playoffs and posted the Florida State League’s best record in 2012. The series features the first of five concerts in the first-ever Marauders Concert Series—a postgame performance by Tampa rock group Pitbull Toddler. Bradenton Marauders return to McKechnie Field on Friday, April 5.
While Opening Day in the Big Leagues are under way, the Bradenton Marauders High-A team is ready to go for Friday's game after the team announced its roster Tuesday. The Maruaders, a Class High-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, play in the Florida State League, and open play against the Fort Myers Miracle at 6:30 p.m., Friday, April 5. Included in the roster is St. Pete native and pitcher Matthew Benedict, 24, who split time between the Marauders and Low-A West Virginia Power in 2012. The Pittsburgh Pirates and Bradenton Marauders will hold their fourth annual Pirates Pep Rally Feb. 16 from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The Pirates partner with Realize Bradenton to present the free Pirates Pep Rally. The event is held on Old Main Street in downtown Bradenton. The Pep Rally is a part of the Pirates’ long-standing commitment to being an active community partner. The Pittsburgh Pirates and Bradenton Marauders are offering a baseball clinic designed specifically for women who want to learn more about baseball fundamentals. The fourth annual Baseball Basics for Women clinic is intended for young adult and adult women interested in learning or refining their baseball fundamentals. It will be held Tuesday, March 5 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at McKechnie Field. Baseball Basics for Women is presented in partnership with Manatee Memorial Hospital. The registration fee is $40 and organizers are accepting applications now. If you have just $25, you can watch baseball games from stadium seats anytime you want. The Pittsburgh Pirates and Bradenton Marauders are selling the seats scheduled to be removed from McKechnie Field. Just imagine these baseball seats in the middle of your den. The cost is a $25 donation to Pirates Charities for each seat purchased. Proceeds from the purchase of the seats will benefit Pirates Charities, the official philanthropic arm of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Order forms are available online at www.BradentonMarauders.com. Three Bradenton Marauders were named to Baseball America’s 2012 Florida State League Top Prospects list for the first time in franchise history. Pitchers Gerrit Cole and Jameson Taillon became the first Marauders to crack the top five, placing second and third. Shortstop Gift Ngoepe ranked 20th among top prospects. Cole’s second-place ranking is the highest rank achieved by a Marauder, the Advanced-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Cole spent the first half of the 2012 season in Bradenton before ascending to pitch in double-A and triple-A during the second half. The top pick in the 2011 draft out of UCLA did not disappoint in his first professional season, posting a 5-1 record and a 2.55 ERA during his tenure with the Marauders. …

The Marauders play their first home game of the season at McKechnie Field on April 5 against the Fort Myers Miracle. The season begins at Fort Myers on April 4. The Bradenton Marauders host the Palm Beach Cardinals for a three-game series this weekend as the two teams are locked in a tight race for a playoff berth. The series kicks off Friday with "Outdoors Night" presented by Wild Wild West Western Wear and featuring all things country. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission will be on hand with information about local state parks. After the game, fans can enjoy country music and compete to see who can ride a mechanical bull the longest. Baby bobble head giveaways help celebrate this years live birth at McKechnie Field.
The Bradenton Marauders will celebrate babies and expectant parents on August 28 when the Marauders host the Fort Myers Miracle on the six month anniversary of a live baby delivery at McKechnie Field. Manatee Memorial Hospital and Anna Maria Oyster Bar will present the "Babies on Deck" promotion during the game that starts at 6:30 p.m. On February 28, a baby boy was born outside the front gate of the stadium during an evening event to kick off Spring Training 2012. The baby was delivered by Pittsburgh Pirates Senior Director of Florida Operation and Marauders General Manager Trevor Gooby.
