Participants in the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life at Bayshore High School understand the reality of cancer all too well. Purple-shirted survivors dotted the field Friday, serving as beacons of hope and inspiration to those who are embroiled in their own personal battles with the disease. Friends and family members were also present to support their loved ones in the struggle, to celebrate the lives of those who have beaten the odds, and to commemorate the lives of those who lost the battle. The junior won the Class 2A state championship at No. 2 singles and partnered with Tianyu Bao to place second in the state at No. 1 doubles last year. Garcia and Bao will play in the No. 1 doubles competition at next week's FHSAA Finals.

Participants at last weekend's Relay For Life in Riverview came together to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer and to fight back against the disease. The American Cancer Society event is one of thousands across the country. Bradenton will hold its own Relay For Life on April 15-16 at Bayshore High School. Name: Shanvi Patel. Grade: 12th. School: Bayshore High. Accomplishment: Shanvi was named an "Academic Ace" by the Manatee County School District this week. She received the Most Outstanding Leadership Award and was among the top 4 percent in the Business Academy in 2010. She has also been awarded the Academic B and Golden Torch Pin, the Straight “A” award, and she placed fifth in a Business Math Competition. Bao played in the individual No. 1 singles semifinals at the 2009 Class 3A FHSAA Finals. Last year, he led the Bruins to a Class 2A-District 9 title and advanced to the championship match in No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles at state.

Laura Campanello, 42, had been arguing that a school visitor was showing too much cleavage.
A 42-year-old woman was arrested Monday for exposing her breasts during an argument at Bayshore High School. The Manatee County Sheriff's Office was called out to a disturbance at the school's front office around 11:20 a.m. and found Laura Campanello, of Bradenton Beach, arguing that another woman who was visiting the school "was showing too much breast." A sheriff's deputy advised Campanello that "this was an adult and that I could not tell this lady how to dress" as long as she was not exposing herself, according to a sheriff's office report. Campanello then pulled the front of her blouse down, reached in with both hands, pulled out both breasts and squeezed them together, saying, "then I can just do this," the report states. Campanello …

Man caught on security camera footage may be younger than originally thought, from 18 to early 30s.
Authorities are still searching for a sexual assault suspect who may be targeting young girls and has put a Bradenton neighborhood on edge. The suspect, who is sought in connection with three sexual assault cases, including a rape of a 15-year-old girl, may be younger than originally thought, from 18 years old to his early 30s, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said Monday. Security camera footage from Bayshore High released over the weekend captured the suspect, who authorities say tried to sexually assault a 12-year-old girl Thursday on her way home from school and may be connected to two other similar incidents involving teen girls in the area, including the Jan. 31 rape of a 15-year-old.
