Deputies: Woman Fled Traffic Stop and Crash

The 21-year-old driver didn't let two flat tires stop her from trying to get away, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

A woman accused of fleeing a traffic stop was arrested after authorities say she ran through a stop sign and red light, then tried to flee on foot after her car got two flat tires. A Manatee County Sheriff's Deputy tried to stop a silver Cadillac with no tail lights around 2:25 a.m. Tuesday at Fifth Street West and Cortez Road. When the deputy turned on his lights, the Cadillac fled southbound on Fifth "at a high rate of speed," according to a sheriff's report. The deputy didn't give chase, officials said, but watched the car as it headed south. The Cadillac went through a stop sign at Orlando Avenue without stopping for another vehicle waiting to turn north, then sped through the light at Fifth and 53rd Avenue, the report states. The …

Pizza Restaurant Parking Lot Accident Kills Bradenton Woman

A 67-year-old woman was walking back to her car at Demetrios' Pizza House when it was knocked into her by another vehicle; she died from her injuries Sunday, authorities said.

A woman has died a day after an accident in a Bradenton pizza restaurant parking lot. Medelin Clevenger, 67, was leaving Demetrios' Pizza House, 1720 Cortez Rd. W., and walking back to her car Saturday when it was struck by another vehicle, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office. The impact knocked Clevenger's car into her, causing her to fall to the ground. Clevenger was taken to Blake Medical Center, where she died from her injuries Sunday afternoon, according to a media release from the sheriff's office. The Manatee County Traffic Unit is conducting an investigation. No further information was immediately released. Sarasota Teacher Dies in Car Accident on U.S. 41

The Florida Highway Patrol said 35-year-old Daniel P Giguere lost control of his car and drove into oncoming traffic, crashing into another vehicle. Giguere was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 35-year-old was killed Friday morning when he lost control of his car and drove into oncoming traffic, according to a Florida Higway Patrol report. According to the report: Daniel P Giguere of Bradenton died Friday morning after driving his Nissan 350z into oncoming traffic on U.S. 41 north of Seagate Drive.  Giguere was southbound on 41 approaching Seagate Drive at about 7:30 a.m., At the same time Mijail A Hurtado-Chavez, 22, was driving his 2002 Ford Ranger northbound on 41, passing Seagate Drive, in the center lane. Giguere, who is the manager of Payne Park's skate park and a physical education teacher at Sarasota School for the Arts, apparently lost control of his 2004 Nissan 350Z and traveled southeast into oncoming northbound …

Crash on Interstate 75 Sends Six to Hospital

A woman is suspected of traveling the wrong way on the Interstate. Deputies are looking for witnesses to the three-vehicle crash.

The Manatee County Sheriff's Office is looking for information about a crash on Interstate 75 that sent six people to the hospital and shut down the northbound lanes for about an hour near the Hillsborough County line. Three vehicles were involved in the accident at Mile Marker 231 at 3:15 a.m. today, according to a Manatee County Sheriff's report. Investigators suspect that one of the vehicles, driven by a woman, was traveling south in the northbound lanes and collided head-on with two other vehicles. The driver traveling south in the north lanes was also suspected of driving while under the influence. The woman was transported to Manatee Memorial Hospital, along with five people from two other vehicles, according to the report. "…

Accident Closes Both Directions of Interstate-75 in North Manatee County

The accident is on the 69th Street East overpass.

The Florida Highway Patrol has closed I-75 in both directions while they work a traffic accident on the interstate. The overpass at 69th Street East has been shut down. Detours are setup westbound at Buffalo Roadd to Moccasin Wallow Road and eastbound for Ellenton Gillette Road to Moccasin Wallow Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Commuters should avoid the Interstate if possible.
