The community's developers announced a new promotional partnership with the Tampa Bay Lightning aimed at convincing residents and businesses to move to Manatee and Sarasota.
The developers of Lakewood Ranch are hoping a new partnership with the Tampa Bay Lightning will draw hockey fans from all over the country to live and work in Sarasota and Manatee counties. To prove they mean business, NHL Hall of Famer and Lightning General Manager and Vice President Steve Yzerman was brought in for a news conference Friday at Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club to announce details of the deal, which officials say will expand the Lakewood Ranch brand name and grow its market. "This really will put us on the national and international map for real estate," said Rex Jensen, president of Schroeder-Manatee Ranch, the community's developer. As the Tampa Bay Lightning and Lakewood Ranch join Friday to announce a partnership, it brings back memories of hockey that could have been in Lakewood Ranch.
As the Tampa Bay Lightning top brass join Lakewood Ranch officials for a special announcement Friday, some excitement lingered online of what could be and what might have been. The announcement appears to be most likely a business partnership as Lakewood Ranch was featured on the largest indoor HD jumbotron in North America for a team segment during the Lightning's opening night. But when you read hockey and Rex Jensen, it brings up some memories of what could have been in Lakewood Ranch with the Forum at Lakewood Ranch, originally called the Bradenton-Sarasota Forum. And most likely, renamed for a corporate sponsor if ever built between Lakewood Ranch Boulevard and Pope Road near the Esplanade. Lightning fan blog Raw Charge was the first…

All of this is in preparation for what will now be an abbreviated season thanks to the negotiation breakdown between the players’ union and the league. The end of the lockout was announced on Sunday. While it remains unclear how many games will be a part of the shortened 2012-13 season or when games will officially start, the …

A three-year letter winner in golf and a four-year letter in softball, Malanczuk is the starting second baseman for the school's 2011 Class 4A-Region 3 championship team.
What sports do you play besides softball?: I played volleyball my freshman year. Then, I played golf for the rest of three years (of high school). Which sport do you like the best?: It’s between softball and golf because I have a really great passion for both. Mostly softball because I’ve been playing since I was like 7 or 8. What’s the excitement level like at school with your team winning a region championship and advancing to the Final Four?: The excitement is getting higher because we’ve made it so much farther and we are making history. It feels good to have people around school saying, 'Good luck Monday for states.' Before when we had regionals, everyone knew about it. It’s really nice to have the excitement. I think it gives us more…

Hi Charles, Do you think it will be revived? I think that the name "Sarasota-Bradenton Forum" would be a better way to marketing the arena. I'm from Chicago and Sarasota-Bradenton is well known here..."Lakewood Ranch" is not...sorry, but its true. I,like several other …   more ›
