Nolan Middle Students Help Beautify Their Campus

Portable classrooms can sometimes be an eyesore, Nolan art students worked with their teacher to turn one classroom into an art piece.

Nolan Middle School Arts students are trasforming their campus one portable at a time. Students in Nolan Middle School’s year old FACTS Club (Fine Arts Club for Talented Students) are painting murals on the portable classooms that dot their campus. They recently completed their second mural under the direction of Nolan Art Teacher Wade Smith. This year's mural is a 25-foot by 8-foot mangrove scene inspired by Emerson Point and completes the second mural in a planned series of three designed to transform the sides of the school’s portables into an impressive, outside gallery. Manatee and Sarasota Veterans, Public Invited To McIntosh Middle Program

McIntosh Middle School is hosting its annual Salute To Veterans assembly on Friday.

McIntosh Middle School world history teacher Jill Rothenberg's challenge has been the same for more than a decade—make sure her students know and thank veterans. But before they could do that, some of the sixth and seventh graders she teaches had to first learn what a veteran is. "Most children didn't know who a veteran was, and most kids did not know the names of the five branches of service," Rothenberg tells Patch. Since 2000, Rothenberg has organized a large Veterans Day program at the school to put the faces of veterans in the community front and center so the kids can see the veterans who are living in Sarasota and Manatee counties.  Veterans from Sarasota and Manatee counties are invited to participate at the program scheduled to …
