Someone fired a shot into the air Friday afternoon on the campus of Johnson Middle School in Bradenton, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
A teenager has been arrested and another person is being sought by authorities following a shooting incident that occurred Friday afternoon at Johnson Middle School in Bradenton. A 15-year-old boy was charged with trespassing on school grounds, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said Friday night. He is not believed to be the shooter, according to a sheriff's office spokesperson, but detectives have also developed another "person of interest" they believe was involved. A second shooting in the Oneco area this week injured a 21-year-old man Friday night. The victim, Dashon McCray, told the Manatee County Sheriff's Office that he walked east on 57th Avenue near 12th Street around 9:30 p.m. Friday when an unknown person approached him and engaged in physical confrontation, according to the sheriff's office. The perpetrator shot the victim in the knee and fled, and the victim was picked up by a passerby and brought to Manatee Memorial Hospital, according to the sheriff's office. Manatee Memorial emergency room called the sheriff's office to report the shooting, and the sheriff's office has not record of the victim calling 911 on his own. A Bradenton man drove himself to the hospital with a gunshot wound he apparently suffered during a home invasion Wednesday, deputies said. The 31-year-old victim was shot and robbed at his home in the 5100 block of 51st Lane West in Bradenton, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's office. Deputies who checked the residence found evidence of a shooting as well as drug use, a sheriff's office spokesperson said. It was not known if anything had been taken from the home. A man opened fire on a victim who was driving through Braden Lakes apartments early Saturday morning, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office reports. The victim was driving through the apartments, at 2900 50th Ave. W., around 3:15 a.m. to meet an acquaintance when he was flagged down by a woman, the sheriff's office said in a media release. A man then approached with a gun in his hand. When the victim saw him, he fled the car, at which time the suspect opened fire, authorities said. Car stolen in Manatee County found its way to Sarasota, leading Sarasota Police on a chase.
A Bradenton woman suspected in a car theft is recovering from two gunshot wounds from Sarasota Police Thursday morning after the suspect attempted to run down officers with the car. At 1:35 a.m. Thursday, police were told to be on the lookout by the Manatee County Sheriff's Office for a stolen black 2012 Nissan and at 1:57 a.m., officers spotted the car on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way and Central Avenue in Sarasota and attempted to stop the car. Instead of stopping the Nissan traveled north on Central Avenue, reached a dead end, turned around, struck a fence and at that time, several officers on the scene exited their patrol cars ordering the suspects out of the car, according to police. Four people, included a convicted felon, were arrested on New Year's eve after shots were fired from several weapons to celebrate the new year. According to a Manatee County Sheriff's report: Deputies were called to 703 33rd Avenue Drive East after a neighbor reported shots being fired near a maroon SUV parked in the area.When deputies arrived they heard several shots coming from the side of 617 33rd Avenue Drive East. Deputies went to the side and observed Demetrick Edwards, 17, firing several shots into the air with a .45 caliber handgun while at least three children watched. One man was killed and another man critically injured in a shooting this morning at a gas station on Manatee Avenue East and detectives are asking for help in solving this case quickly. Detectives say they believe the first homicide of the new year was a drug-related shooting. Davinci's strip bar and the Circle K convenience store were hit with bullets Christmas morning.
Two businesses that are a mile apart were hit by bullets early Christmas morning. The Davinci's strip bar and the Circle K both were hit with bullets before dawn on Dec. 25. A vehicle was identified in the shooting as an older model, four door car that may be black. Davinci's is located st 105 Cortez Road, and the Circle Kis at 3006 First St. W.

The school system has procedures in place for emergencies, requires identification from all visitors.
The Manatee County School district trains its teachers, staff and administrators to protect students in the case of crimes in or around the schools. They school system has a plan in place for any sort of emergency. Principals and administrators know exactly what to do if a crisis happens in or near the schools, said Mike Barber, a spokesman for the Manatee County School district. In the case of any emergency, teachers and adminitrators secure the school first, meaning the entire campus is shut down as far as access in and out. Students and teachers stay in classes until give the all clear.
