After Man Bites Victim, Deputies Use Multiple Tasers

A Palmetto man on a rampage bit a chunk of flesh out of a man's arm. He tore off his clothes and threw furniture until officers tasered him twice.

UPDATED 4:16 p.m. Manatee County Sheriff's Public Information Officer Dave Bristow issued this clarification about the incident that involved Charles Baker, who bit a man and was tasered repeatedly by sheriff's deputies: "Obviously, the story above has received a lot of media attention. The news release written by the supervisor on duty last night describes the bite as taking a chunk of meat from the victim’s arm. It was a small chunk and the victim did not want medical attention. Also, tests run at the hospital showed marijuana and opiates in the suspect’s system. 13-Year-Old Shot Outside of His Home

Two Bradenton shootings reported overnight; sheriff's office believes they're unrelated.

A 13-year-old boy was shot outside his home Monday at almost 11 p.m. while sitting on his family car, the Manatee County Sheriff's Department reports. His injuries are not considered life-threatening. The boy was talking to his girlfriend when two unknown Hispanic males approached him on the 800 block of 57th Avenue East. According to the report, the two suspects did not speak to the victim before they began shooting. The boy was transported to the hospital. During interviews, no one provided information related to who the subjects were or why the shooting happened. Suspicious Incident Reported Near Orange Ridge-Bullock Elementary

Driver motioned for 9-year-old girl to approach his vehicle.

A 9-year-old girl became fearful when a man in a black, 4-door vehicle with dark tinted windows waved her toward his car. She was walking on 9th Street East on her way to Orange Ridge-Bullock Elementary School at about 8 a.m., reports the Manatee County Sheriff's Department. The window of the car was rolled down and the driver motioned for her to approach the car. Instead, she ran to Noreen's Deli on the 500 Block of 30th Avenue East.  The girl saw the vehicle drive down 5th Street and the driver was watching her, the report stated. The driver was described as a white man, with short, possibly balding, hair and wearing sunglass on top of his head. Former Manatee Sheriff's Deputy Charged With Killing Wife

Robert Taylor, a corrections deputy from 1997-2004, was arrested in Missouri and charged with his wife's 2008 death, originally ruled a drowning.

A former Manatee County Sheriff's Office deputy has been arrested in Missouri and charged with killing his wife in Bradenton in 2008. Robert Taylor, 55, served as a Manatee corrections deputy from 1994-2007. He was arrested Tuesday at his home in Gravois Mills, Mo., and charged with second-degree murder, according to a sheriff's office report. Two detectives from Manatee County flew up to Missouri assist Morgan County deputies in the arrest. "We knew he was up there," sheriff's office spokesman Dave Bristow said. "We've been steadily building a case against him."
