"Parker" had some of its scenes shot at the Ca' d'Zan at the Ringling Museum, and it almost didn't happen.
Parker may not have happened in at the Ringling Museum, if it weren't for a native of Sarasota. The action movie starring Jennifer Lopez and Jason Statham opens this weekend nationwide and though predominately set in Palm Beach, the Ca' D'Zan mansion at the Ringling Museum was used for various scenes in the movie. Sarasota native Pam Alessandrelli, who is a production office coordinator/production manager and continues to work on USA Network's Burn Notice, had to find a mansion for the movie in a pinch, she shared during a Sarasota County Film and Entertainment Office event in 2012. She knew the Ca' d'Zan was perfect, so she called Jeanne Corcoran, director of the Film and Entertainment Office, to see if the location was available. "They …

Paolo Veronese: A Master and His Workshop in Renaissance Venice opens Friday at the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art.
Paolo Veronese is like the Gordon Ramsey of Renaissance artists but without the attitude. Imagine Veronese getting an order placed, then calling out instructions to his staff to get to work, much like a celebrity chef making sure his well trained culinary team can execute a menu to perfection and being able to show off in the process. "A Renaissance artist workshop is a bit like a fancy restaurant run by a celebrity chef," said Frederick Ilchman, Curator of Paintings at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston during a walk-through of a new Veronese exhibit that opens Friday at The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art. "…Paolo Veronese was supervising a hell of activity, and he had family members and a bunch of his assistance following his recipes…

Museum officials announced Thursday morning that sculpture Endogenae was cut from its pedestal and removed from the museum grounds and the theft was reported to Sarasota Police on Tuesday. The 20th century bronze sculpture was completed by American Artist A. Arlie Sinaiko, who died in 1984. “Endogenae has long been on display on the Museum grounds and this theft is unprecedented,” said Steven High, executive director for The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art. “The work was damaged when it was taken and so has no acceptable value. Ringling Museum says event for Gov. Mitt Romney was "rented" at "fair market venue."
Updated 9:59 a.m. Sept. 21 The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art's place in a presidential campaign was a "fair market value" rental, according to museum staff. Patch readers wanted to know this week whether the public museum operated by the Florida State University system was appropriate to be the site of the Gov. Mitt Romney rally on Thursday afternoon. The Ringling Museum's spokesman Scott Gardiner told Patch the campaign event was OK within the museum's and Florida State University policies. "As with any organization, special events require modification to our standard conditions. As an example, the recent Jackie Evancho “Dream with Me” filming, produced for PBS in April of 2010, did not fit within the standard conditions and a …
