On Thursday morning before an energized crowd of thousands of supporters, President Barack Obama made a stop at Ybor City's Centennial Park during a campaign tour that stretched from Iowa to Virginia. After cheers from the crowd, he took the stage around 9 a.m., first thanking Tampa Bay residents for getting up early this morning to see him. Then, he joked about casting his own ballot later today. Democrats with $20,000 to spare are invited to get up close and personal with President Barack Obama when he comes to Tampa Thursday, Sept 20. The Hillsborough County Democratic Party is hosting an evening reception with the president at the Tampa home of Lisa DeBartolo and husband Donn Miggs, with a special performance by Eddie Vedder, lead singer of Pearl Jam. The exact address will be given out when guests RSVP. DeBartolo is the executive vice president of DeBartolo Holdings LLC and the daughter of Edward DeBartolo Jr., the former owner of the San Francisco 49ers. This Thursday's fundraiser isn't cheap. The battle for Tampa Bay's voters heated up Friday as President Barack Obama came to town to talk about his second run at the White House and the future of the nation. The free tickets for President Barack Obama's visit Friday to Tampa were all taken in less than five hours.
If you waited to get tickets to see President Barack Obama at Hillsborough Community College Friday, you're out of luck. Obama's Florida campaign said Wednesday that the free tickets were snatched up in less than five hours, when they were made available Tuesday. People flooded the four Tampa Bay-area Obama For America offices where tickets were handed out on a first-come, first-serve basis Tuesday. Even some Republicans got in on the action, like Scott Goldston, who joined his wife and daughter in line at the Obama campaign office in Riverview.
