Nineteen people were arrested Friday as part of a prescription drug bust, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office reported. The arrests are part of a two-month, undercover narcotics investigation by the sheriff's Special Investigations Division that led to arrest warrants for 34 individuals and 53 charges, according to a news release. Most of the charges were for sale of a controlled substance and involved prescription narcotics. The nineteen people arrested as of Friday afternoon faced a total of 31 charges, with more arrests forthcoming, the sheriff's office reported.
Headquarters will host a permanent medication drop box for the public.
The Manatee County Sheriff's Office will serve as a permanent prescription drug drop-off spot beginning next week, a news release said Thursday. Beginning Monday, the sheriff's office front desk will accept unused prescription medications for disposal as part of the Citizen Medication Collection Program. The front desk at the operations center, 600 310 Blvd. W., is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The sheriff's office has held special drug drop-off events at various locations in the past, but the collections program will provide a permanent spot for the public to dispose of unused medication.
