This week's adoptable dog is Adele, a tan and white pit bull mixl. Adele, a two year old spayed female, loves to play ball and she loves to be with people. She will sit for a treat and loves to please. Adele has been with Manatee County Animal Services since March 14, when she was transferred from Sarasota. You can visit Adele at the county's downtown adoption center today or next week. The downtown adoption center is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. This is a great month to adopt Wendy. Manatee County Animal Services is offering a $60 adoption fee for dogs through June. Check out other dogs as well. This week's adoptable cat is Casper, a domestic shorthair. Casper's friends at Manatee County Animal Services aren't sure how old she is, but she has been with them since May 20. They do know that just like the cartoon ghost with the same name, she's friendly. Casper is available for adoption the county's downtown adoption center. County offers promotion as it moves toward its goal of making Manatee a no-kill community.
Fresh off a successful adoption special last month, Manatee County Animal Services is offering half-price adoption fees for military personnel in July in the hopes of finding homes for more dogs and cats. All active and retired United States military personnel can adopt pets from the county this month for half the cost — normally $80 for dogs and $60 for cats. "Everyone needs a pet, or three,” said Animal Services Chief Kris Weiskopf in a news release. “Giving current and retired military half off the adoption fee is only a small token of our gratitude for their service to our country. This week's adoptable cat is Jasper, medium-haired cat. Jasper, who is about three years old, was picked up by Manatee County Animal Services on May 24 and was initially believed to be a feral cat. But he's well-adjusted, friendly and looking for a new home. His friends at animal services also say he's not afraid to voice his opinions.
