Norovirus Invades US, Florida

Floridians and visitors to the Sunshine State for cruises should take precautions against the stomach virus. Here are some ways to protect yourself from norovirus, and how to recognize the illness.

Beware Floridians of a new wave of the flu — the Norovirus is sweeping the nation. A new strain of the highly contagious norovirus has reached the U.S. from Australia, and it's critical for folks in Bradenton and other areas across Florida to take precautions as the stomach virus has frequent cases in cruise ships and nursing homes. The CDC reports that the new norovirus — named GII.4 Sydney because it's believed to have started in Sydney, Australia‚ is currently the leading cause of norovirus outbreaks in the U.S. If you're worried if you have been on a cruis ship recently, check out the U.S. Centers of Disease Control and Prevention's Cruise Ship Sanitation Web page that lists individual cruise ships that have had virus outbreaks.
