Federal database reveals emergency room wait times in Bradenton, Florida and the nation.
If you have a broken bone and need pain medicine at the emergency room in Bradenton, expect to wait more than most Americans. Patients waited up to an average of 86 minutes at Manatee Memorial Hospital for some pain relief, above the national average of 62 minutes, according to a new federal database. Lakewood Ranch Medical Center had the best time in that category at 67 minutes while Blake Medical Center came in at 76 minutes. Florida is famous for its hospital billboards flashing the average ER wait time up and down highways, but this newly released data finds how long the wait really is during the course of a sample period. A new federal database publicly released wait times averages, measuring the wait in several categories. Data for…

Sarasota store, opened by Manatee Memorial nurses, is one of only 15 locations in the country.
The scientific ice cream shop SubZero Ice Cream will be getting some national exposure on ABC's "Shark Tank" Friday night. There are only 15 SubZero stores in the country and the store at 4065 Clark Road in the Expo Center is only the 14th in the country, and only one in the eastern United States, said Don Wirth, a co-owner of the Sarasota store, along with other Manatee Memorial Hospital nurses, Brad Lord of Bradenton and Gabe Ramsey of Lakewood Ranch. If you're not familiar with SubZero, check out the video above from the Patch business profile on the store, or read our story on them. The store pumps out liquid nitrogen from a 1,000 liter tank to flash freeze cream within seconds to create anything from ice cream, yogurt and custard …

SubZero Ice Cream & Yogurt in Sarasota uses liquid nitrogen to flash freeze cream to turn it into frozen treats.
A new ice cream shop in Sarasota using liquid nitrogen promises ice cream in a flash. A team of six nurses from Manatee Memorial Hospital partnered to open the first SubZero Ice Cream & Yogurt franchise location east of the Mississippi River at the Expo Center on Clark Road. Inside you won't find cases of ice cream, but instead a 1,000 liter tank of liquid nitrogen that pumps through a line to flash freeze a combination of creams and flavoring to make more than 37 trillion combinations of ice cream, yogurt, custard, milkshakes, smoothies and even pies (actually, Pi, thanks to their science and math humor). "Your imagination is the only limitation of what SubZero can offer you as far as ice cream," Wirth said. The men of the group are …

Manatee Memorial Hospital welcomes its first resident doctors in white coat presentation.
Manatee Memorial Hospital welcomed six new doctors Friday for a three-year residency program aimed at attracting the best and the brightest and keeping them in Manatee County. With doctors growing leery of malpractice lawsuits and taking their talents to other states, officials said they hope the county's first residents will decide to stay in the area once their three years are up. Bob Bartz, president of the Manatee Chamber of Commerce, said studies have shown residents usually go on to practice within 40 miles of the location of their residency. "We hope you'll stay in this community," Bartz told them, "and we'll do everything we can to make it a pleasant stay." The recent medical school graduates were presented with white coats …
