The Florida Highway Patrol continues to search for the driver of a Chevrolet Cruze involved in a hit and run crash that killed Erika Leigh Fortner, 42, of Venice. The FHP released a photo showing the kind of vehicle they are looking for in connection with the Oct. 30 crash at U.S. 41 and Montgomery Ave. Troopers believe a 2011 or 2012 Chevy Cruze was traveling northbound on U.S. 41 as Fortner was crossing U.S. 41 from east to west. The car struck Fortner and drove off. The investigation is ongoing. The 21-year-old suspect is accused of stealing a car and crashing it into a house after breaking into a garage and rummaging through a vehicle.
A 21-year-old man led police on a chase that included a Hillsborough County helicopter early today after he broke into two garages, stole a car, crashed into a house and ran into the woods. Billy Donahue was eventually found hiding under a trailer and was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, auto theft and burglary of an occupied dwelling. He is being held on $17,500 bond. Shortly before 7 a.m. on Monday Cindy Jackson, who lives in Mill Creek, spotted a man in a gray hooded jacket in her garage and riffling through her car. A 41 year-old Venice woman was killed by a hit and run driver in South Manatee County while crossing U.S. 41. Erika Leigh Fortner was taken to Blake Medical Center where she died Tuesday afternoon. Fortner was crossing the street from east to west when what is believed to have been a maroon-colored car, possible a hatchback, heading into Sarasota struck her shortly after midnight Tuesday morning. The car left the scene heading nother but the driver's side rearview mirror was found at the scene. Florida Highway Patrol Troopers are asking that anyone who witnessed the crash or who might have information about the car or driver to please contact FHP at 239-938-1800 and leave a message for Trooper Barbara Ehrhart.

A 52-year-old Bradenton woman was killed in a hit and run accident shortly before 6:30 this morning and troopers are asking for the public's help in finding the driver of the sedan who hit her. Teresa L. Kidd was crossing the southbound lane on 15th Street East when a dark colored sedan struck her and left the scene, accoding to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol. According to the report: The sedan was traveling south on 15th Street East approaching the intersection of Magellan Drive. Kidd was standing on the west shoulder of 15th St E at a driveway access to 6630 15th St. East. Kidd apparently didn't see the sedan and tried to cross the southbound lane. The sedan hit Kidd and was last seen traveling sounth on 15th Street East. …

A 47-year-old Sarasota woman is in critical condition after her scooter was hit by a driver from behind and she was thrown from the vehicle and then run over by another driver who sped away. Victoria Mann was riding her scooter along U.S. 301 just south of Whitfield when Jubal Gordon, 26, who was driving a Toyota failed to slow down and struck Mann from behind. Mann was thrown from the scooter. A car traveling behind the Toyota was unable to stop and struck Mann. The driver who hit Mann sped off. Troopers are searching for a woman who was driving a silver Nissan. Gordon, of Sarasota, was charged with careless driving. Troopers are looking for couple who were in an older model Ford
The Florida Highway Patrol is looking for a couple suspected of hitting a child on a scooter and then driving off after pulling the scooter out from under the car after dragging it for a short distance. Terrence Gordan, 8, was taken to Bayfront Medical Center with serious injuries. According to an FHP report, an older, faded maroon-colored Ford was travelling on 4th Street East and Terrence was riding his Razor scooter westbound on 26th Avenue East when the Ford made a right turn onto westbound 26th Avenue East and the Ford's front hit the rear of the scooter which got caught in the car's undercarriage. Bradenton police are searching for anyone with information about the overnight crash.
A 46-year-old Bradenton man was struck by a car and left to die in the road in an overnight hit-and-run crash Saturday, according to investigators. Bradenton police are now asking the public for help. William Ray Perri was found lying in the road, in the 1700 block of 17th Avenue West, after he was hit by an unknown vehicle that left the scene. The Traffic Unit with the Bradenton police department is investigating the crash, which occurred at about 2 a.m. on Saturday. Investigators report that the victim was walking across the road, headed north. Another Bradenton resident saw Perri lying in the road after the accident and immediately called 9-1-1. A 53-year-old Sarasota jogger was struck and killed by a drunken driver fleeing the scene of a car crash Saturday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Donna L. Chen of Sarasota was jogging along the shoulder of Midnight Pass Road in Siesta Key, when she was hit by an Altima driven by Blake C. Talman, 22, of Bradenton, investigators said. The Bradenton Police Department Traffic Unit has arrested a woman on several charges involving a fatal crash on Manatee Avenue East a week before Christmas. Officers arrested Damaris Taina Reyes, 25, of Bradenton on felony charges of leaving the scene of a crash involving a death, leaving the scene of a crash with injuries and tampering with evidence. The crash happened on Dec. 18 at the intersection of 20th Street East and Manatee Avenue East at around 8:45 p.m. The crash involved two vehicles including a white 2000 Mazda MPV minivan and a dark blue 2007 Ford Focus. A suspect was arrested and charged Sunday in a hit-and-run that sent a 5-year-old boy to the hospital with a broken leg and head trauma, the Bradenton Police Department reported. Lionso Martinez-Vera, 24, was arrested at 3:34 p.m. Sunday and charged with leaving the scene of a traffic crash with serious bodily injury, reckless driving and not having a valid driver's license, a news release stated. Martinez-Vera was arrested without incident and taken to the Manatee County Jail, where he was being held on $7,000 bond.
