Habitat for Humanity's local thrift stores are offering special “Black Friday” savings on all items at two locations. Bradenton's Cortez Store location will offer deals all day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with discounts up to 35 perent off. The Tallevast store at 1227 Hardin Avenue will open at 7 a.m. and offer 50 percent off everything until 8 a.m. The Tallevast store remains open until 7 p.m. with all items at 25 percent off throughout the day. Santa is expected to pay a visit from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Refreshments and door prizes will be available at both locations. The Repairs Corps program is designed to honor and help disabled veterans.
Manatee County Habitat for Humanity has been selected as one of 84 Habitat affiliates to participate in Repair Corps, a veterans-support initiative of Habitat for Humanity International and The Home Depot Foundation. The program is designed to support U.S. veterans in need of home repair. Habitat for Humanity’s Repair Corps is funded by The Home Depot Foundation with a $2.7 million cash and in-kind gift card donation. “We are excited to participate in the launch of Habitat for Humanity’s Repair Corps program and grateful to The Home Depot Foundation for funding this project,” said Jim Frame, Board President for Manatee Habitat. “It is truly an honor to work in partnership with former service men and women, and their families.” Home …

1. This weekend features the 30th annual Cortez Seafood festival designed to raise money to benefit the F.I.S.H preserve. Last year more than 20,000 people attended the popular festival featuring fresh seafood. The weekend features great live music, nautical arts and crafts, children’s activities, environmental exhibits, more seafood than imaginable and beer. On sale are festival T-shirts designed each year reflecting a commercial fishing theme. The festival takes place Saturday and Sunday beginning at 10 a.m. 2.
