Santa Set to Bring the North Pole to Bradenton on Saturday

G.T. Bray will be transformed Saturday from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Manatee County Parks will host the popular “A Night Before Christmas” celebration on Saturday when Santa will bring 10 tons of snow to the park with him. Mr. Kringle will fly in by helicopted for the Dec. 1 event and will arrive promptly at 4 p.m. This is one of the county's favorite events as 10 tons of snow help turn G.T. Bray into the North Pole for an afternoon and evening. The event at the park, 5502 33rd Ave. Dr. W, will include a huge inflatable slide, bounce houses, a trampoline power jump, hayrides, cookie crafts and the 10 tons of snow, of course. The highlight of the day is a visit from the Jolly One himself. Concessions will be available for purchase. “It’s a fun, family event that’s free and open to ‘kids’ of all ages,” said …

Thunderstorms Force Early End to Relay for Life

Thunder and lightning, along with a deluge, put an early end to the 15th annual event.

With the help of doctors and her daughters, all who have a medical background, she survived having melanoma, as well as ovarian and breast cancer. She has been in remission for the past eight years. Keyser was one of the many survivors and caregivers who made the walk around the track. Afterwards, the Manatee High School marching band led the large group of teams participating, many…

The American Cancer Society's 15th annual Relay for Life in Bradenton will take place from Saturday afternoon until Sunday morning.

Participants in the 15th annual Relay for Life of Bradenton will burn the midnight oil – and calories – as they walk toward a cure for cancer at G.T. Bray Park this weekend. This year’s Relay for Life is Bradenton’s largest yet, with 40 teams participating to raise money for the American Cancer Society, which invests more than $120 million in cancer research every year. Of that $120 million, more than $15 million goes to researchers in Florida, the nation’s leader in reaching newly-diagnosed patients. “Relay is a unique opportunity for our community to come together to celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember those we’ve lost, and fight back against the disease,” said Gwen Washington, event chair. Teams from local businesses, …
