Manatee Sheriff's Lieutenant Faces Molestation Charges

A veteran lieutenant with the Manatee County Sheriff's Office was arrested Thursday.

A Manatee County Sheriff’s lieutenant faces three charges of lewd and lascivious molestation on a child. Lt. Dale Couch, a 20-year officer with the sheriff's office, was arrested Thursday. Couch, 50, has been suspended without pay. The charges are in connection to allegations made in July 25, 2012, to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office. The allegations involved inappropriate touching of a juvenile and date back to 2009. The allegations were investigated by the sheriff's office and the State Attorney's Office, but charges were not brought at the time. Man Reports Beating, Robbery 8 Days Later

The man said he was beaten and robbed at a Bradenton gas station March 15 but didn't come forward because he didn't have much information about the suspects.

A man told authorities he was beaten and robbed eight days ago at a Bradenton gas station but didn't come forward sooner because he didn't have a good description of the suspects, deputies said Thursday. The 49-year-old victim said he was robbed of money and other personal items by "three unknown black males," sometime on May 15 at the BP gas station, 3101 15th St. E., according to a Manatee County Sheriff's Office report. "He did not report the crime after it occurred due to his lack of suspect information," the report states. Six Dogs Rescued From Bradenton House Fire

Roofers working in the area noticed smoke billowing from a house on Palma Sola Boulevard.

Six dogs were rescued from a house fire on Palma Sola Boulevard in Bradenton last week after roofers noticed smoking pouring from the burning home, according to firefighters. On Friday, May 17, roofers noticed smoke pouring from the chimney of a house on the 1100 block of Palma Sola Bouelvard and ran over to the property, according to the West Manatee Fire & Rescue District. By the time they arrived, smoke was billowing from the eaves of the house. The roofers called 911 for help, with West Manatee Fire & Rescue, Bradenton Fire Department and Manatee County EMS responding to the scene. The fire was put out within minutes. UPDATE: Bones Found at Bradenton Apartments Were From Animal

A woman reported finding what appear to be several vertebrae outside a Dumpster on Sunday night, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office reports.

Updated, 1:35 p.m.: The bones found outside a Bradenton apartment complex are from an animal, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said Monday. The sheriff's office had initially reported that they may be veterbrae from a human. Earlier: Authorities are investigating after a Bradenton woman reported finding human bones scattered outside a Dumpster at an apartment complex. The woman was taking out the trash at The Vista at Palma Sola, 3914 75th St. W., around 8:30 p.m. Sunday when she noticed what appeared to be several small bones scattered on the ground, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office. OMG PD: Grease Theft, Mayor's Gun Stolen, Accidental Starbucks Shooting

Two men are charged with stealing used cooking and fryer grease from a Wendy's in Sarasota and may be responsible for similar crimes in Pinellas County, authorities said Friday. The duo was seen using a white truck to extract the grease from a storage system attached to the inside of the fast food restaurant at 1601 S. Tamiami Trail around 3:30 a.m. Thursday, authorities said. When the restaurant's manager noticed the men were not wearing the normal uniform and were acting unusual, he called police. A patrol officer found the two men and the truck later that night at Fruitville Road and Shade Avenue, police said. One of them, 23-year-old Leroy L. Bradenton Teen Stabbed

The 19-year-old is listed in critical condition.

Manatee County Sheriff's Deputies responded to a stabbing at the 12000 block of Lavendar Loop around 5 p.m. Sunday. The 19-year-old was stabbed in the chest, treated at the scene and airlifted to the hospital, according to police. As of Sunday night, he was listed in critical condition. Deputies say the suspect and victim knew each other and got into a confrontation that led to the stabbing, according to the press release. The suspect is a 17-year-old male. Police: Bradenton Man Stabbed Himself After Wife's Slaying

Sean Mudgett is expected to survive after turning the knife on himself, Bradenton Police said.

A Bradenton man was found stabbing himself as his wife was dying of stab wounds in their home Wednesday night, police said. Officers found Sean Mudgett stabbing himself and his wife suffering from life threatening stab wounds when they arrived at their home in the 2000 block of St. George Drive East just before 10:30 p.m. Wednesday following a 911 call, officials said. Karen Mudgett was pronounced dead about an hour later at a local hospital.  Sean Mudgett was taken into custody and treated at a local hospital, where he is in intensive care but expected to survive, according to Bradenton Police. Report: Crime Down 6 Percent in Bradenton, 15 Percent in Manatee

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has released its annual uniform crime report for 2012.

Crime was down more than 6 percent in the city of Bradenton in 2012 and 15 percent in Manatee County, according to a report released Thursday by the Florida Department of Lawe Enforcement. The annual uniform crime report covers Part One offenses — murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary, larceny and motor vehicle theft — committed within city limits and reported to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31 of last year. Crime was down by 6.3 percent in the city of Bradenton and 15.7 percent in the unincorporated parts of Manatee County during that same time period in the FDLE's report. Bicyclist Hit by Vehicle on US 41

The Bradenton man was not wearing a helmet and was thrown from his bike.

A 44-year-old Bradenton man was critically injured Wednesday morning, when he rode his bike into the direct path of a Ford F-150, at the intersection of US 41 and State Road 684, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Mark Andrew Saba, 44, was not wearing a safety helmet and was thrown from his bike, when it was hit by the left front end of the Ford, which was driven by 42-year-old Johnny L. Anderson, also of Bradenton. Another DUI Patrol Set for Friday Night in Manatee

Florida Highway Patrol troopers will be on the lookout for impaired drivers this weekend.

Drunk drivers beware: The Florida Highway Patrol will be conducting a DUI patrol Friday night, May 17, in Manatee County. The FHP's "DUI Wolfpack Detail" will take place from 7 p.m. Friday until 3 a.m. Saturday, officials said. Troopers will be on the lookout for impaired drivers. The Manatee County Sheriff's Office conducted its own DUI patrol last weekend, resulting in three arrests and 31 citations.
