The 11 month old was killed 18 months ago. Deputies say the mother did nothing to protect her baby from abuse.
Detectives have arrested a 22-year-old woman on charges of aggravated manslaughter of a child after they say she failed to protect her 11-month old baby from an abusive boyfriend, according to a Manatee County Sheriff's report. The baby, Payton Nash Moistner, died Sept. 14, 2010 from a head injury. Investigators discovered that the baby had suffered at least five incidents of abuse over nearly two weeks before her death, according to a sheriff's report. Nash's boyfriend, John Morico, 21, is currently serving 10 years in prison for manslaughter for the baby's death. Detectives charged Nash Tuesday because they said she failed to protect her daughter from the ongoing abuse.

A 38-year-old woman was found dead inside her home this morning. Her husband is being held for questioning.
A 39-year-old Bradenton man was arrested on murder charges this afternoon after his wife's body was discovered inside their Bayshore Gardens house, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office. Alisa June Hartmann, 38, was found dead at about 11:45 a.m. at 2105 Harvard Ave. Her body showed signs of blunt force trauma. According to reports, her husband Nicholas Hartmann arrived at the location shortly after noon. Deputies said that Hartmann made some statements at the house about his wife's death. Longboat Key Police Chief Al Hogle died in a motorcycle accident while on vacation in North Carolina. Hogle served for 30 years in the Sarasota Police Department and was a former Sarasota mayor.

A 47-year-old Sarasota woman is in critical condition after her scooter was hit by a driver from behind and she was thrown from the vehicle and then run over by another driver who sped away. Victoria Mann was riding her scooter along U.S. 301 just south of Whitfield when Jubal Gordon, 26, who was driving a Toyota failed to slow down and struck Mann from behind. Mann was thrown from the scooter. A car traveling behind the Toyota was unable to stop and struck Mann. The driver who hit Mann sped off. Troopers are searching for a woman who was driving a silver Nissan. Gordon, of Sarasota, was charged with careless driving. The 48-year-old man was loading bananas when a 5,500 pound basket fell on him.
A 48-year-old Tampa man working at Port Manatee unloading bananas from a ship was killed this morning, after a 5,500-pound basket for a crane fell on him, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office. Authorities are not releasing the worker's identity until his next of kin is notified. The sheriff's office has reported the accident to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. OSHA will investigate the accident, said Dave Bristow, a spokesman for the sheriff's office. The accident happened at about 9 a.m. at Berth 12. Driver heading east traveled across westbound lane and hit a tree.
At about noon on Sunday, Harry Charles Starkey, 53, of Bradenton, was driving east on 26th Avenue East, west of 39th Street East, when the 1993 Chevy S-10 he was driving crossed into the westbound lane. The car traveled into into the north shoulder and the front of the vehicle then struck a tree, said Florida Highway Patrol. Starkey was transported to Manatee Memorial Hospital, and died at about 1 p.m. Starkey was wearing his seatbelt and there were no other passengers in the car. It is not known if he had been drinking.

Suspect stole $76 from the store before fleeing.
A man dressed in black who appeared to be carrying a gun, stole $76 from Subway, 6041 26th St. West, at about 8:30 Saturday night, the Manatee County Sheriff's Department reported. The man, about 25- to 30-years-old, was wearing a camouflage hat, black shirt, pants and shoes as well as a black cloth over his face and latex gloves as he entered the Subway store and told a worker, "I need money." The suspect approached the counter and kept his hand in his pants and under his shirt, as if he were holding a gun. The worker opened the cash register and the suspect took $76 before fleeing out the door and running north of the Bayshore Crossings Plaza. The suspect has not been located.

Facing the death penalty for the 2004 killing of his parents, Blaine Ross pleaded no contest Thursday afternoon. Twelfth Judicial Circuit Judge Diana Moreland accepted his plea under the condition that he would spend his life in jail with no chance of parole. Witnesses say the victim and his stepbrother were fighting before the shooting.
A man was shot and killed outside of his home at about 8:25 p.m. Thursday, reported the Manatee Sheriff's Department. Deputies responded to the shooting on the 2900 block of 39th St. E., where witnesses says George A. Garnett, 32, was in a dispute with his stepbrother, Roy Solomon Harrison, 24. Harrison fled the scene, but was located soon after and charged with murder, the sheriff's report said. Garnett was pronounced dead at Blake Memorial Hospital just after midnight.
