Dan Toler, 65, lived in the Whitfield neighborhood in Manatee County, Ticket Sarasota reports.
Dan Toler, former guitarist for the Allman Brothers Band and a resident of the Sarasota-Bradenton area, has died, Ticket Sarasota reports. Toler, 65, who also performed with the Gregg Allman Band and Dickey Betts' Great Southern group, passed away Monday morning following a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), or Lou Gehrig’s disease, according to Ticket Sarasota. He lived in the Whitfield neighborhood in Manatee County. Toler and his brother, drummer David, played with the Allman Brothers Band in beginning in the late 1970s and helped lead the band's revival, Ticket Sarasota reports. Kathy Pascoe died on Jan. 20, 2013, in Bradenton. She was born on March 25, 1922, in Bay Village, Ohio, to a farmer, Will Krumwiede, and his wife Amie Hunt Krumwiede, who immigrated to the United States from England. Though she endured tragedy when her sister Martha and youngest son James each died in middle age, her long life was filled with a passion for books, classical music, gardening and travel. Her interest in travel began during World War II when she accompanied her first husband, Walt Thomas, to various training assignments prior to his deployment to India with the Army Air Corps. It continued when he was re-called to active duty with the Air Force for the Korean Conflict and was assigned to Germany. She traveled extensively in …

Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf had retired to Tampa, Fla., after a final military assignment leading U.S. Central Command.
Retired Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf, 78, passed away today in Tampa, according to media reports. Schwarzkopf was best known to the American people for his leadership in removing Saddam Hussein and his forces from Kuwait in 1991. Schwarzkopf had successfully led an international coalition of U.S. allies to drive out Iraqi troops. "Barbara and I mourn the loss of a true American patriot and one of the great military leaders of his generation," former President George H.W. Bush said in a written statement, according to ABC News. Schwarzkopf led what came to be known as Operation Desert Storm under President Bush. The 18-year-old, who was eight months' pregnant, was thrown from the bike after she hit a curb and lost control.
A pregnant Bradenton woman died in a scooter crash Wednesday, after she was thrown from the bike when it struck a curb on 54th Avenue West. Shaneice S. Porter, 18, was driving east at about 11 p.m., when the crash occurred. Porter's body hit a bus stop sign after the bike it the curb. The 2009 LHJ bike overturned several times before coming to a stop. Porter was not wearing a helmet. Porter was eight months pregnant. According to a report by the Florida Highway Patrol, the fetus passed away at Blake Medical Center. Porter's Facebook Page lists that she was a 2012 graduate of Bayshore High School, worked at Michaels Arts & Crafts Store, and was engaged to be married.

Brent and Julia Robinson are among five people who died in the head-on collision on Christmas Eve.
A Bradenton couple was killed on Christmas Eve in a car accident in Kentucky that claimed the lives of five people, according to media reports. Julia Robinson, 29, and Brent Robinson, 30, died when the vehicle they were traveling in was struck head-on by a car that lost control on U.S. 25E in Knox County, according to ABC. Brent was the son of retired Major League baseball player, Don Robinson, and Rhonda Robinson of Bradenton. Brent was a 2001 graduate of Manatee High, where he was a standout baseball player. Also killed in the crash were Julia's parents, Gary and Patricia Caldwell of Putney, Ky., according to the Herald Tribune. A Bradenton driver is accused of fleeing the scene after crashing into a car and killing the driver.
A 55-year-old Sarasota man has died after a drunken driver from Bradenton struck his car on Washington Boulevard early this morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Siosaia K. Fonua, 29, of Bradenton was driving a 1995 Mercury on northbound U.S. 301 and struck a 1999 Ford Mustang driven by Scott R. Parker, 55, of Sarasota at 47th Street at about 12:50 a.m., according to the Florida Highway Patrol. According to te FHP report: The Mercury struck the left side of the Mustang and Fonua ran away from the crash. Law enforcement was able to find him soon after. The World War II veteran, who spent more than 50 years as a lawmaker, was pronounced dead at Tampa General Hospital.
A memorial service for former congressman Sam Gibbons will be held at Tampa's Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. Oct. 20, according to Tampabay.com. Gibbons, an iconic Bay Area figure and politician who was instrumental in the creation of the University of South Florida died on Oct. 10, 2012. The World War II veteran, who spent more than 50 years as a lawmaker, was pronounced dead at Tampa General Hospital. Gibbons, 92, lived through some of the most significant events in Bay Area and U.S. history. He served decades in the Legislature and Congress, developing a reputation as an outspoken lawmaker.

Professor Snyder served on the New College faculty with great distinction from 1969 until his retirement in 2003. A man of tremendous learning and wide-ranging interests, Professor Snyder was an intellectual historian who specialized in Medieval and Renaissance Europe.
