I have a simple fix for cyberbullying. Pass a law that simply states that in the case of a personRead More who self inflicts harm up to an including death which can be established to a correlation of the death or harm to comments made on ANY social media network of the victim shall be guilty of culpable neglence for injuries and manslaughter in the case of a death. in the case of an offender under the age of 18, the parent(s) shall be held responsible bottom line don't be the FIRST person or LAST to write a harmful message that results in a death

Mills has two very highly paid and very highly touted as competent assistants and no one knew theRead More law on public hearings? It's not looking good for our board. They hold the bag on this one. They selected Mills and they have been approving all his requests. Will their report show how many students are in district seats and how many are in charter? Will is show class sizes and numbers of students at the actual schools? Otherwise all we have to go on is their word. And this citizen isn't willing to trust their word when it is reported that they don't still honor public records requests.

Yet when they go through the lunch line and have to take a fruit and vegetable, do you know where itRead More ends up? In the trash. They might "taste" it in the classroom but actually eating a whole one is another story.

Suzanne S August 31, 2013 at 11:47 am
So do you want to pick the tomatoes and slaughter the hogs yourself? American businesses preying onRead More people in dire straights is what is bringing illegals here. How about addressing the problem from the top?

Taxation without representation. The Superintendent makes the recommendation to the Board and theRead More Board never acts in the interest of the citizen. When contracts are negotiated who is the voice of the people paying the bill? No one it is all done on the behalf of the employee with no checks on the cost to the public. They are advocating to get changes to taxation so they have the ability to levy more taxes to just keep raising incomes. We have a bad deal.
The School District of Manatee is paying back all the schools for funds they contributed to help with last year's budget shortfall. Patch file photo.

So the MCSB is doing what the law requires. On the flip side- the students affected during thisRead More period will absorb these shortfalls during their tenure at these schools and some never at all. Seeing how classroom sizes are at Max capacity....standing room only in middle school classes. Yes I understand this is what needs to be done to fix MCSB's debacle, but you can't set the fire and then put it out and claim to be the hero.

I wonder how much of our tax dollars are squandered educating children of illegal immigrants.
Two more adminstrators have been put on adminsitrative leave in the district's internal Frazier investigation.
Travlar August 16, 2013 at 10:18 pm
So true canary, but to think that these people with their mindsets were even able to reachRead More administrative positions is like turning off a computer program that keeps checks and balances....oh...wait..a..minute. How much of Gagnon's and Martin's mindset was used in the " restructured plan "?

No wonder our youth are so screwed up! Can't even trust a teacher anymore...who can you trust?Read More ...and the cycle continues. Time for changes in this town, on many levels.
Tom James August 17, 2013 at 11:07 am
As AD, Joe Kinnan should have known what was going down. He claims he had no idea. If true, heRead More should be fired for negligence!
Superintendent Rick Mills.

The key phrase..." It also meets the MANDATE of the governor and the state legislature toRead More enhance teacher pay ". So it's a mandated settlement. Where would MCSB's position be if it weren't for the mandate??
Two Manatee school administrators have been placed on paid leave in connection to an investigation into allegations of inappropriate touching by a former Manatee High coach.

Fellow citizens, not only was he a principal, the school board voted him in as the tempRead More SUPERINTENDENT based on the advice of Martin and Bowen. We got to get a new board next election. 2014 can't come fast enough

the school board has a sign that says honesty and integrity are vital. as a public school mom ofRead More over 22 yrs i have this is very hipocritical. they are to worried about money and not education.y dod i say this. cause i watch budget cuts from the most needed areas like the ESE dept. all 3 of my kids are in the program and when cuts hit so did the quality of teaching for these students. u keep leaders (as u think) on and dismiss the ones that are actually doing their job and making the supervisors look damn good yet that supervisor sits back and passes the bucket including the school board. teachers that are abusive are left to teach after being warbed several times. then their spervisors dont follow thorugh and the teacher does what she wants. and now u r making more cuts. y dont u Mr. Mills get off your ass and take a real good look at the school and talk to the lower people Not the principle cause he will lie to cover his ass and look around and listen to the students, parents and fellow workers. hey i got a better idea go on undercover boss then u will see of YOUR schools are being rn due to the screw ups that nobody cares about. you wannaknow the system is failing and nobody can fi it?KEEP THE TEACHER AND FACULTY THAT DO THE WORK THAT REALLY CARES AND GET RID OF THE ONES WHO JUST WANTS A PAYCHECK AND SECURITY!!!!!! WATCH THE SCHOOLSYSTEMGO DOWN HILL ENOUGH

common core - do you really believe another large education booddoggle is going to improve theRead More ability and learning of students? When has education ever got it completely right? Teachers never get the skill sets at each level taught. So the teachers on up the line are always in remediation. The system doesn't really care as long as the money flows and it always flows. If they lose their job in one area don't worry they will get hired somewhere else in the field. They take care of their own, just not your kids.

Disgusting. Whatever the Manatee teachers and Board of Education are doing, it is not working and isRead More a waste of money. Either fire them for proven incompetence or have the courage to say that the students are just dumb.
