Manatee High School traces its roots back to 1897, when it was known as Braidentown (Bradenton) High School. In the past the school included students from all over Manatee County. Today, it serves more than 2,000 students just at the Bradenton campus. The school's athletic teams have won 14 state titles, including four in football, under legendary coach and athletic directer Joe Kinnan. Among its notable alumni are former standout Nebraska quarterback Tommie Frazier, former Oakland Raider Henry Lawrence, ex-Major League Baseball players Brian McRae and Lance Carter and members of pop-punk band We The Kings. The Macohi is the school's long-standing student newspaper.
