More Rain in Bradenton's Weekend Forecast

The chance for storms starts to diminish as Monday rolls around.

The heavy storms that have rolled through the Bradenton area over the past few days don’t plan on taking the weekend off.

The National Weather Service’s Ruskin office says area residents should plan for showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening hours through most of the weekend. The chances for rain are set around 60 percent on Friday, Aug. 23. They drop to 50 percent on Saturday and down to 40 on Sunday.

While storms are likely most of the weekend, meteorologist Jon Jelsema says they won’t cool things off much. Highs should reach the low 90s throughout the weekend with lows in the low to mid-70s.

Jelsema says a frontal boundary is to blame for the weekend’s high rain chances. As it sags southward, Tampa Bay will see “more of a drier, easterly flow for the first half of next week.” Even so, afternoon storms are just part of Florida summers, so folks should plan to get a little wet.
