Phillippi Creek's Snapper Tacos Become a Craveable Dish

Local seafood restaurant's tacos make it a dining destination.

I’m a taco aficionado.  It’s important to start there, so everyone knows where I stand.  I’ve been in search of the perfect taco for pretty much my entire life.  I can’t pinpoint when it started or why it started, but I do know the journey has been a long one.

I recently went to Phillippi Creek Village Restaurant & Oyster Bar for lunch with some friends. The feel is tiki chic, the relaxed atmosphere of Key West but right in your backyard.   We were seated outside at a picnic table with a beautiful view of Phillippi Creek.  The restaurant still features their signature favorites, but recently introduced some new dishes to their menu – fresh new salads and most importantly: Fresh Snapper Tacos.  It was love at first site.  The snapper filets are batter-fried and nestled into crisp blue-corn tacos with fresh greens, avocado slices, feta cheese and various other seasonings.   I started off thinking I would only eat one but managed to finish all three and even the rice on the side.  The tacos are only available on the weekends but I’m hoping they will start offering them all week long.  I also tried some of their new salads.  The Steak Salad is delicious with blue cheese chunks, radishes, red cabbage, cucumber, asparagus and a creamy dressing with perfectly cooked steak and crunchy string potatoes.    My favorite salad had to be the Cobb Salad with fresh fried fish and creative flavors.  My friends loved the new seafood platter with amazing ceviche, oysters and shrimp cocktail, but me—I am the Fish taco Queen!   Chefs Pedro and Rafael have truly outdone themselves.

Phillippi Creek Village Restaurant & Oyster Bar is located at 5353 S. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota. Lunch and dinner: Sunday - Thursday, 11 a.m. - 10 p.m. and Friday and Saturday, 11 a.m. - 10:30 p.m.   The restaurant also features a full bar and expanded waiting area under the tiki for the crowds during season.  Be sure to check out the new gift shop too - lots of local artists and great toys for the kids.

Now, all I do is count the days until the next time I can go and eat those tacos.
