USF Hosts January Lecture Series

Learn about national security issues, legal affairs and research on Kennedy's assassination.

The University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee will host two thought-provoking speakers this month as part of its Lifelong Learning Academy at its Selby Auditorium on campus.

Jack Rabito, a nationally acclaimed researcher, actor, lecturer and film consultant will be presenting: The JFK Assassanation: Beyond Zapruder and the Warren Commission on Wednesday, Jan. 16 at the Selby Auditorium in the University of South Florida, Sarasota-Manatee at 3:30 p.m.

Rabito served as a consultant to Director Oliver Stone during the filming of the controversial movie, JFK. He is a local actor and Venice resident who has spent 30 years researching the assassination.

Rabito will present counter theories to the Warren Commission's conclusions and show the Zapruder film, discussing his interpretation of the film as it is shown and examining the hidden story within the news story, on the 50th anniversary year of the assassination.

Award-winning journalist Ari Shapiro will offer a conversation "Behind the News of the Moment" Thursday Jan. 24 at 3:30 p.m. in the Selby Auditorium at the University of South Florida, Sarasota-Manatee.

Shapiro reports on the White House for NPR with a focus on national security and legal affairs. His stories appear on all of NPR's news magazines, including All Things Considered  and Morning Edition,  where he is also a frequent guest host. He has appeared as a guest analyst on TV news programs including NewsHour, The Rachel Maddow Show, and CNN Newsroom.

Whatever the top story of the day, Shapiro is asking questions about it at the White House. He pulls together the threads of the daily news landscape into a detailed analysis and animated discussion of issues that have impact on American lives.
