Sweetbay Moves Up Closings of Bradenton Stores

The Sweetbay grocery store at 5201 33rd St. E. officially closed Monday. Another at 8750 State Road 70 E. is closing Tuesday.

One Sweetbay Supermarket in Bradenton has closed its doors as part of a company-wide shuttering of under-performing stores, and another is slated to follow Tuesday, according to an article on TBO.com.

The two stores were among 33 Sweetbays scheduled to close in February. The Sweetbay at 5201 33rd St. E. officially closed Monday, TBO reports, while the store at 8750 State Road 70 E. is closing Tuesday.

Many stores began liquidation sales in the last 2 weeks, with some stores offering as much as 50 percent off.

Several closing dates were moved up, and the rest will close by Wednesday. For a complete list of the new closing dates, click here.

Words can't express how much my family and neighbors will miss the Sweetbay that was on 33rd Street. It's so sad to see it go. I'd replace it with another Sweetbay or another supermarket. Walmart is a hot mess, and Publix is overpriced and doesn't carry the items Sweetbay used to, expecially Sweetbay's range of foreign ingredients and 'health food' products. Both Publix and Walmart have very poor produce management. Sweetbay could be counted on for frequent rotation of produce and good variety. That Sweetbay had a small but high quality and affordable deli selection, and Walmart used to sell the Ecce Pannis bread baked by Sweetbay. They will be missed and not easily replaced.
