Romney Gets Majority of Votes in Manatee County

The Republican presidential candidate is favored among Manatee County voters.

Gov. Mitt Romney has carried Manatee County.

The results are in and Romney, the GOP challenger, has 55.68 percent of the vote to President Barack Obama's 43.18 percent.

With 113 precincts reporting, Romney collected 85,455 votes in Manatee County, with Obama taking 66,276.

While Romney won’t gain any precious electoral votes from Manatee County alone, he can say he carried the county.

In 2008, Manatee voters also chose the Republican candidate, picking Sen. John McCain over Obama. In that race, Obama took 67,786 votes or 46 percent. McCain garnered 53 percent or 78,040 votes.

Results are considered unofficial until they are certified by the state of Florida.
