UPDATE: Road Closing for 9th Avenue Bridge Ribbon Cutting

The historic 9th Avenue Bridge spans Ware’s Creek in downtown Bradenton.

UPDATE, Jan. 23, 12:03 p.m.:

The bridge dedication will result in the closing of 9th Avenue West from 18th Street West to 21st Street West today, Jan. 23, from 1:30-2:30 p.m.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the new 9th Avenue Bridge and unveil its historical marker is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday.

The new bridge recently opened after the old one was torn down during the summer. The 9th Avenue Bridge, which spans Ware’s Creek, is the first of four bridges that are being replaced by the City of Bradenton, in cooperation with the Army Corps of Engineers, to address chronic flooding along the banks of Ware’s Creek.

The replacement of the aging bridges at 9th, 12th, 14th and 17th avenues with new, wider ones is part of the overall Ware’s Creek project. Rebuilding of the 12th and 14th avenue bridges will begin next month.
