Suspected Car Burglar Bitten By Police Dog

A man believed to have broken into several vehicles in Bradenton early Saturday morning was arrested after being tracked — and bitten — by a K-9.

Manatee County Sheriff's deputies believe they caught a man who was responsible for several car burglaries in Bradenton early Saturday morning.

According to the sheriff's report, deputies responded to a call from a witness who saw a man attempting to enter a vehicle in a parking lot at 4500 3rd St. Circle W. at around 3 a.m.

Upon arriving, deputies set up a perimeter and used a K-9 to track the suspect.

Authorities say the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Joshua Trevino, was located a short distance away hiding in a bush.

The canine deputy engaged Trevino, who gave up after being bitten on the left bicep, according to the report.

Trevino was positively identified by the witness as the man who allegedly attempted to break into the vehicle. Further investigation revealed several other vehicles had been burgled on the same night.

Police say Trevino was treated for his injuries at Lakewood Ranch Medical Center and then released. He was arrested and charged with burglary to a conveyance.
