Shots Fired at Motorist at Braden Lakes Apartments

The victim was flagged down by a woman early Saturday morning and then approached by a man who opened fire on him, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

A man opened fire on a victim who was driving through Braden Lakes apartments early Saturday morning, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office reports.

The victim was driving through the apartments, at 2900 50th Ave. W., around 3:15 a.m. to meet an acquaintance when he was flagged down by a woman, the sheriff's office said in a media release.

A man then approached with a gun in his hand. When the victim saw him, he fled the car, at which time the suspect opened fire, authorities said.

The victim fled the scene and later met with sheriff's deputies at another location. Evidence was found at the apartments, the sheriff's office said.

The suspect is described as a black man who is about 5-foot-8, 170 to 180 pounds. He was wearing a red hoodie and blue jeans and armed with a handgun, officials said.

The investigation is ongoing.

I just about fell over in my chair, Bradenton Patch! You actually gave a description of the suspect with more detail than simply "male" or "female". There may actually be a glimmer of hope for your journalistic integrity, but forgive me if I don't hold my breath.

Sounds more like a drug deal gone wrong to me. 3:15 AM to "meet an acquaintance? When he saw the gun he bailed out of the car and ran? I think I would have stayed in the car and drove off as fast as I could, all of that steel and glass kind of cuts down on the chances of getting hit.
