Scooter Rider Killed in University Parkway Accident

The woman's scooter was rear-ended by a car as they both headed west on University near Whitfield Avenue in Manatee County early Tuesday, the FHP reports.

A Sarasota woman was killed in an early morning crash Tuesday on University Parkway in Manatee County when she was rear-ended and ejected from her scooter, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.

According to investigators, the victim was headed westbound on University in the right lane around 1:30 a.m. as she approached the Whitfield Avenue intersection. A 2003 Volvo was traveling behind "at a faster rate of speed" when the driver failed to see the victim's scooter in front of her and crashed into it, the FHP reports.

The victim was ejected from her scooter and onto the roadway. The woman, who has not yet been identified pending notification of her next of kin, died from her injuries, investigators said. She was wearing a helmet, according to the highway patrol's report.
