Pedestrian, 42, Killed Friday

The pedestrian was crossing the street when he was hit just after 6:15 p.m.

A 42-year-old Palmetto man was killed Friday when he was hit by a car while trying to cross 17th Street East, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

According to the FHP report:

Martin Ochoa-Hernandez, 42, was on the south shoulder of 17th Street East attempting to cross the street from south to north just after 6:15 p.m. A red Mitsubishi Galant being driven by Simone A. Anderson, 21, was traveling East on 17th Street East in the left lane approaching the pedestrian.

Anderson, of Ellenton, attempted an evasive maneuver to the left to avoid hitting Ochoa-Hernandez. Anderson's front right hit his left side.

Ochoa-Hernandez landed face down on 17th Street East facing southeast.
