Pedestrain Killed in Hit and Run

The FHP is looking for information from anyone who may have witnessed the crash just after midnight.

A pedestrian was killed this morning while walking westbound along 51st Avenue East just after midnight when a car also traveling westbound hit the person and kept driving.

The pedestrian came to final rest in a nearby ditch and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Florida Highway Patrol reports. The FHP is witholding the pedestrian's name until a next of kin can be found and notified.

The FHP did not release any information about the suspected vehicle.

The FHP is asking that anyone who may have witnessed this crash or has any
knowledge as to the identity of the driver or the vehicle to contact the Florida Highway Patrol at 239-938-1800, ask for Trooper Gerry Smith, the crash investigator.
