Nurse Busted For Ordering 11,000 Oxycodone Via Fraud

Sarasota County Sheriff's investigators say that Evelyn Kay Weisnborn of Bradenton ordered more than 11,000 pills for herself, making her employer pay for them.

It turns out that a sick day can cost you.

Evelyn Kay Weisenborn, a registered nurse at Premier Surgery Center, had ordered 11,100 Oxycodone pills through the center's suppliers without her supervisor's knowledge, but when she was on sick leave and the packages came, the administration at the center grew suspicious, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.

Weisenborn, 59, of 4112 26th Ave. East, Bradenton, was out sick on July 11, and a package arrived at the office and employees there noticed it was for Oxycodone, according to the affidavit. The center does not prescribe that drug to its patients, according to the affidavit.

Employees at the surgery center contacted the sheriff's office Pharmaceutical Division investigators to look into the matter, and found that Weisenborn had ordered the pills from January 2010 through July 2012 through the center's suppliers through purchase orders and used them for personal use, according to the affidavit.

The 30mg pills came in 111 bottles during the two-year period, according to the sheriff's office.

Weisenborn was arrested Monday and charged with 54 counts of Obtaining a Controlled Substance by Fraud, according to the sheriff's office.
