Masked Gunman Fatally Shot by Victim

Investigators say that the victim apparently turned the tables on three masked suspects who entered a Manatee carport Sunday night.

The victim of a Sunday night holdup shot and killed a masked gunman who had ordered him to the ground, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

James M. Brady, 26, was pronounced by emergency medical workers who arrived on the scene on the 4200 block of 24th Street West.

According to investigators, two men had been sitting outside in a carport at about 10 p.m. Sunday, when they were approached by three suspects wearing masks and dressed in black.

One of the suspects – Brady – pulled out a gun and ordered one of the men to lie down on the ground.

Investigators said that the victim instead drew a handgun and fired at the suspect. There was an exchange of gunfire.

Brady was shot, and the two other suspects fled on foot, according to investigators.
