Man Sought for Allegedly Threatening Woman with Hammer

Authorities are searching for a man who allegedly violated a restraining order and used a hammer to smash in the pickup of a 32-year-old woman, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Manuel Gutierrez, 30, of Bradenton, is sought in connection with robbery, false imprisonment, domestic aggravated assault and violation of no contact order after he allegedly threatened the mother of his four children with the hammer on Monday eventing, according to an incident report.

Gutierrez allegedly came to the victim’s home, 3400 block of Ninth Street Court West around 9:45 p.m. and confronted her while she was in her pickup truck, the report states. The victim locked her doors, but Gutierrez began smashing the truck with a hammer, ordering her out of the vehicle, the report said.

The victim opened the door and Gutierrez got in the vehicle and threatened her with the hammer, saying he was going to kill her if she didn’t do as he said.

He reportedly made her drive to a church located on the 3700 block of 26th Street West while a red Ford Explorer followed them.

Once at the church, Gutierrez reportedly grabbed the keys from the vehicle, and snatched the phone from the victim’s hands as she attempted to call 911.

Gutierrez left in the Explorer, but came back five minutes later to tell the victim that “police don’t’ mean anything to him” he also threated to come back and kill her, according to the report.

Authorities were not able to locate Gutierrez at the time of the incident.
