The truck was traveling southbound in the right lane of I-75 when the right front tire blew out causing the truck to veer off of the right shoulder of the road. Hinchliffe was unable to regain control of the truck and continued southbound
down the grassy area of the shoulder.

As the truck continued south it struck the concrete embankment to the Erie Road overpass. The truck was then ramped upward into the Erie Road Bridge and Hinchliffe was ejected from the truck. He landed in the right inside lane of I-75 where he was found dead. The truck came to final rest on its right side on the south side of the bridge.
